When “the IRS” Calls, Hang Up, Don’t Hang On

In recent weeks, numerous taxpayers have reported receiving threatening phone calls “from the IRS.” If you receive such a call, hang up immediately; it is a scam. The IRS always communicates with taxpayers in writing via U.S. Mail.

  • Do not be fooled by caller ID. The thieves can mimic an IRS phone number.
  • Do not provide any personal or financial information.
  • Ignore any threats to come to your home or arrest you. The IRS does not do this.

If you know or suspect you owe taxes, contact your AKM CPA for assistance in resolving the matter.
